On 1 March a ballistic missile strike on the Port of Odesa damaged two commercial vessels and injured two port workers.
The containership MSC Levante F suffered minimal damage after being targeted by missiles on 1 March in the Port of Odesa. Reportedly, it was attacked by the Russian military which claimed the vessel was carrying weapons destined for Ukraine. However, Ukrainian authorities have refuted the claim stating that the vessel carried purely civilian cargo.
The vessel was struck by two missiles that missed their target but instead hit the bulk carrier, Super Sarkas, which was loading 21,000 tonnes of corn and soya at the time, according to Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexiy Kuleba.
In addition, two dock workers were injured by the attack but have been provided with medical attention. Although the extent of the damage to the vessels has not been disclosed, they are reported to still be seaworthy.
