A giant Maersk containership the Mumbai Maersk, has grounded off the German island of Wangerooge in the North Sea, on January 2.
The ship was on its way from Rotterdam to the German port city of Bremerhaven when it ran aground.
After the incident, Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies carried out an attempt to tow the ship, but the first try with two multipurpose vessels and five tugs on January 3 was unsuccessful.
Now, Maersk informed that extra tugs are being deployed and a new attempt to free the Mumbai Maersk is expected later today.
Maersk also confirmed that all crew members are safe, while there is no pollution, and no evidence of a hull breach.
