Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Ltd has finalized the first phase of investments at the Limassol Container Terminal, amounting at a total worth of over €30m. In addition, two new super post panamax cranes that are already operating, along with 17 new straddle carriers have been bought.
With these purchases, the Limassol port is now able to accommodate the largest container ships and attract more transhipment business.

What is more, three older cranes have been renovated, with more equipment passed on by the Cyprus Port Authority receiving upgrades. The Port has also installed a new IT system and performed several construction projects, in order to improve the terminal’s infrastructure.
Having completed these upgrades, and in the aspect of an overall modernisation, the Port of Limassol will become one of the most advanced ports in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Moreover, in 2017, Eurogate served 547 ships and 210,055 containers. One year later, in 2018 it served 639 ships and 234,497 containers, achieving a growth of 16.8% and 14.1%, respectively.
Commenting on these results, Eurogate’s Operations Manager, George Pouros, said that the aim is to improve the terminal’s productivity, minimise ship waiting time at the port, and provide quality services.
Finally, he highlighted that Eurogate is planning a second phase of investments, aspiring to upgrade even more the Limassol port and turn it into a key transhipment hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
