Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Imabari Shipbuilding) and Japan Marine United Co., Ltd. (JMU) decided to form a capital and business alliance, aiming to strengthen the international competitiveness of both companies’ merchant shipping business.
According to JMU, Imabari Shipbuilding and JMU will consider the business alliance between the two companies to achieve the following:
- Establish a joint business design company for the merchant ship field excluding LNG carriers;
- Improving the future production system of Imabari Shipbuilding and JMU.
Now, Imabari Shipbuilding and JMU aim to finalize the contract within the Fiscal Year 2019, defining the specific methods, conditions, schedule, and details of this alliance, as well as details on how to form a joint business design company, details of operations, organization, and operation methods.

The alliance will be implemented after the conclusion of necessary procedures and responses, according to domestic and foreign competition laws.
