Jamaica will make its efforts to reduce shipping emissions more intense, as the Transport and Mining Minister, Robert Montaque will present a Maritime Pollution Bill in the Parliament.
As he said during the International Bunkering Industry Association Gala Dinner, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica informed him about the important of having a Maritime Pollution Bill within the next six months.
According to local media, Mr. Montaque mentioned that Jamaica will proceed with taking opportunities in the bunkering industry, along with giving a special consideration to legislation and policies. This will make sure that the country’s marine life will not be affected.

He also highlighted a recent study on shipping emissions, which concluded that these emissions are linked with medical problems, such as premature births.
