NAMEPA commited to preserve marine environment
ITOPF announced that has joined NAMEPA (the North American Marine Environment Protection Association). NAMEPA was launched in 2007 and follows in the tradition of HELMEPA as an independent, marine industry-led, non-profit association, committed to preserving the marine environment. It works through engaging with industry, regulators, environmentalists, students and the general public to promote sound environmental practices.
Dr Karen Purnell, ITOPF‘s Managing Director said: “ITOPF is delighted to become a member of NAMEPA and join many international industry partners in supporting the common goal to “Save our Seas”. She explained that many of the principles and aspirations of the two organisations were closely aligned and ITOPF’s involvement with NAMEPA was an excellent opportunity to help promote effective response to marine spills of oil and chemicals.
Like NAMEPA, ITOPF is committed to providing awareness and education and the two organisations also share the belief that effective implementation of IMO regulations can greatly assist with the protection of the seas.
