North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) recently launched a CSR/ESG (Corporate Social Responsibility/Environment, Social, Governance) program for the maritime industry.

MSC announced that it joined the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), whose work is to preserve the marine environment by promoting sustainable maritime industry best practices and educating the public. Carleen Lyden Walker, Co-Founder and Executive Director of NAMEPA, welcomed MSC as a new member of NAMEPA, and mentioned that the two organisations share a common interest in maintaining best industry practices to 'Save Our Seas'.

Decades of industrial pollution and overexploitation of fish stocks have largely affected the ocean’s ecological balance. As this is bad for the planet, NAMEPA suggests ways to businesses to reverse this situation. These include: reducing the carbon footprint; support ocean-friendly organizations; work for change; and educate your staff.

The Liberian Registry, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association, ProSea Marine Education, and Maritime Training Services of Seattle, Washington, cooperated to develop a marine environmental awareness training program for seafarers and staff working shoreside.
