EMSA in collaboration with the European Commission created an infographic presenting the benefits of electronic tags for marine safety. Namely, Article 11 of the MED provides manufacturers with the possibility to use electronic tags instead of, or in addition to, the required wheel mark.
By using electronic tags, manufacturers can be greatly benefited, EMSA said, presenting the benefits of this technology. Namely, eTags:

- Give direct access to product details;
- Give seamless data flow between manufacturers, notified bodies and authorities;
- New eTag app reads RFID and data matrix formats;
- Give direct access to declaration of conformity;
- Provide counterfeit protection and better stock control.
What is more, by scanning an eTag, a number of important information can be revealed, such as:
- Who made the eTag;
- Its certification details, and;
- Whether it should be in service.
