On November 11 contact was lost with the 3,900-dwt Mutia Ladjoni, after it went adrift off the Aru Islands. Search of the ship – which carries 16 seafarers on board – continues into the week.
According to information, the ship left from Timika in Papua province on 9 November, heading for Bontang port in East Kalimantan.
After contact was lost with the vessel, a search and rescue operation startedcoordinated with the local SAR team.
Commenting on the operation, the head of the national search and rescue (SAR) agency Basarnas, named Mustari, stated:
We are helping to find the ship in the waters of Dobo (Aru Sea)
The ship’s owner told the SAR office that they lost contact with the vessel on November 11 while it was in the Aru (Arafura) Sea. They tried to make contact again by radio on November 12 and then reported the vessel as missing when they were unable to establish communications.

The search and rescue team is also calling for assistance from fishing vessels that were operating in the area that might have possibly seen the Mutia Ladjoni 7 as well as to be on the lookout for any information related to the ship and its disappearance.
