International Container Terminal Services revealed plans to invest more than PHP5 billion to develop the Iloilo Port Complex and the Port of Dumangas in the province of Iloilo, Western Visayas, Philippines, as part of its aim to modernize the infrastructure of the ports and make them an international gateway concerning cargo movement.
As such, ICTSI has submitted a Letter of Intent to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), seeking to assist the Authority in upgrading the port network in the country to facilitate inter-island and international cargo movement. Under the proposal, the company will invest more than PHP 5 billion to develop the Iloilo Port Complex, which includes the dredging and deepening of the port and the channel to allow the entry of new international vessels.
The ports will be provided with high-tech equipment, including modern quayside crane handling equipment, during the first phase, estimated to cost PHP1.35 billion, according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA). ICTSI is also offering to substantially invest in the development of the Port of Dumangas to handle passenger spillover from the city port.

ICTSI aspires that not only will the efficiency of ports be improved, but also the port will be developed with enhanced connectivity of cargo movement within the country. The company’s idea is to alter these two ports into global gateways, according to Christian R. Gonzalez, ICTSI global corporate head.
Along with investing in increased automation, ICTSI will likewise rollout engagement programs for port users to ease business transactions.
