Hong Kong has issued a merchant shipping information notice in order to inform that the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of IMO at its 69th session has adopted the amendments to the Annex VI of MARPOL and the NOX Technical Code 2008. Both amendments will enter into force internationally on 1 September 2017.
The MEPC adopted the amendments to Regulation 13 of Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention by MEPC.271(69) at its 69th session. The amendments require ships installed with marine diesel engines which are certified to both Tier II and Tier III emission standard, or which are certified to Tier II emission standard only and operating in NOx ECA to record the operational status of the engines.
It is required to record the tier and on/off status of engines together with the date, time and position of the ship in logbook at entry into/exit from an ECA, and when the on/off status changes within ECA.
The Committee also adopted amendments to the NOX Technical Code 2008, by MEPC.272(69), to facilitate the testing of gas fuelled engines and dual fuel engines. The amendments enable certification of gas fuelled and dual fuel engines which include revisions to the Parent engine test report and test data form.
