HMM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to support the development of Vadhvan Port, a flagship project by the Indian government aimed at positioning the port among the world’s top 10 container ports by 2040.
With a natural depth of 20 meters, deeper than the Nhava Sheva Port, Vadhvan Port is designed to handle 23 million TEU annually and accommodate 24,000 TEU mega vessels. As the region’s market continues to grow, HMM is expanding its services in India and enhancing its role in integrated logistics through strategic terminal investments.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, India’s Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal announced the launch of projects worth nearly ₹2,000 crore in order to expand capacity at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port. As announced, an additional 2.4 million TEUs will be added to Jawaharlal Nehru Port’s total capacity.
In 2024, Jawaharlal Nehru Port achieved its highest-ever container volume of 7.05 million TEUs, operating at over 90 percent capacity.
