The Georgia Ports Authority announced it is set to reach 4.36 million TEUs handled in 2018, its highest volumes ever in a calendar year. The performance would mean an increase of 8% (312,385 TEUs) compared to 2017. Meanwhile, it is the 25th consecutive month the GPA has posted positive year-over-year growth.
Namely, concerning year 2018, Port of Savannah handled 4 million TEUs more in comparison to the same period last year. The containers that are currently reserved for December, are to add about 362.000 TEUs more to the annual total. Additionally, Port of Savannah moved more container cargo in October than any other month in its history, with 413,800 TEUs crossing its docks.
Moreover, GPA managed to achieve a 11.4 % rise in container volumes in November, handling 344.506 TEUs, increasing them by 35.359. Also, Garden City Terminal averaged 1.322 container mover per vessel during November, by having 151 vessel calls at the container port.

Port authorities assume brisk container business at the port of Savannah in 2019. Some vessel calls were rescheduled from the last day s of November to the first days of December. The latter, combined with the already planned December trade will result to bigger numbers to finish the year.
In addition, a majority of vessels is expected to achieve above-average cargo exchanges during January, close to the Chinese New Year celebration, which will begin on February 5.
November was also busy concerning auto and heavy machinery trade. Specifically, GPA handled 59,297 units of ro-ro cargo the previous month, a growth of 12,135 units, or 25.7 %.
Colonel’s Island Terminal at the Port of Brunswick led the increase, adding nearly 12,000 vehicles to its total from November 2017.
