Nigeria is searching for 10 crew members that went missing after an explosion took place on a floating production storage and offloading vessel off Escravos on January 2.
According to local media, the Trinity Spiri sank right after the blast, and while no fatalities have been confirmed, there has been no information about survivors.
According to the owners of the ship, Sepcol, the explosion took place at the Ukpokiti terminal, and engulfed the FPSO.
Currently, the cause of the explosion is being investigated and the company is “working with necessary parties to contain the situation.”
Sepcol also added that at the time there are no reported fatalities, but it confirmed that there were 10 crewmen on board the vessel before the incident.
A team from Chevron operating in the nearby Escravos facility, along with local fishermen, are providing assistance.
Warning the public, Sepcol urged them to “stay away from the area while our crisis-management team continues to monitor the situation and update all stakeholders with new information as the investigation evolves.”
