In a bid to align with smart shipping and innovation, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) is working to develop China’s first smart crude oil carrier, that will be designed to incorporate technology to assist the captain in operation.
The construction is planned under the company’s project “smart ship 1.0 R&D” assigned by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, according to deputy chief engineer of DSIC, Guan Yinghua, as quoted by ChinaDaily.
DSIC is a subsidiary of state-owned shipbuilding company China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (CSSC).
Earlier in the year, the first Chinese smart ship was presented as part of Marintec China 2017, built at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd (GWS), which is also a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
In the meantime, Chinese shipbuilding seemed to take the lead in new orders in 2017, seriously affecting South Korean shipbuilding industry, that was also hit by global economic downturn, and low crude and gas prices in the past years.
