The refloating operation of the Ever Forward, which remains stuck until this very moment, started yesterday. However, despite the efforts of the tugboats to make the container move, the operation was unsuccessful.
The Evergreen Marine-owned containership Ever Forward ran aground in Chesapeake Bay after departing the Port of Baltimore Seagirt Terminal, 2 weeks ago.
Yesterday at about noon, the first refloating operation of the Ever Forward was attempted. The operation began with 5 tugboats trying to free the ship. Nevertheless, no matter how much they tried, the vessel did not move.
The U.S. Coast Guard mentioned that there was no indication of movement after the day’s efforts. For this reason there is a more extensive plan for the following week in order to make the containership reflow again. Specifically, further attempts will be made on April 3 and 4 with the extra assistance of two anchored barges.
If this attempt is unsuccessful too, the removal of the containers may be necessary, prolonging, however, the refloating operation even more.
According to the Coast Guard the team will make a second attempt on Wednesday.
