The ongoing fire onboard the USS Bonhomme was extinguished yesterday, July 16, when teams of military and civilian firefighters finally managed to put out the blaze.
The fire was burning for four days, and local media had informed that one million gallons of fuel were reportedly stored on the ship.
Rear Admiral Philip E. Sobeck, the commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Three issued a statement noting that after four days of burning, all known fires have been extinguished aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).
Rear Admiral Philip E. Sobeck added that
Our fire teams are investigating every space to verify the absence of fire. Until every space is checked and there are no active fires we will not be able to commence any official investigations.
