The Polaris drillship, owned by Aquadrill Offshore, reported that it caught fire while docked at a port in Sri Lanka, on 15 February.
According to a statement from the Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka, the fire broke out in the drillship’s emergency generator room.
The port’s emergency response team brought the fire fully under control within 33 minutes of arrival on the scene and managed to prevent serious damage to the drillship and surrounding areas.

The 14-year old Polaris drillship has been in lay up at the Hambantota Port since 11 January 2021. It is expected to remain in port until June 2022.
