After hours of trying, the firefighters decided to adopt a more offensive strategy, in order to contain the fire in the cargo hold of the vessel.
The fire was reportedly started on a conveyor belt, and then it spread into the ship’s hold. The vessel is structurally sound, despite the fire, while the ship’s crew has been evacuated safely.
Currently, three aerial appliances are being used to access and extinguish the fire in the cargo hold of the ship. Firefighting operations are expected to continue into the evening.
