On 30 March cargo vessel Castphill XV, caught fire while sailing in waters northwest of Limbones Island, Nasugbu, Batangas, Philippines, forcing the crew to abandon ship.
The incident aboard the ship occurred near the entrance to Manila Bay. The Philippine Coast Guard responded, rescuing seven crew members from the water around 4:30 AM local time with the patrol vessel BRP Boracay. The crew members had only minor injuries and were safely brought to Manila for medical evaluation.

In addition, five more survivors were rescued by personnel from the PCG station in Maragondon, Cavite, and were taken there for treatment. The PCG has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. There is reported speculation of the vessel carrying flammable cargo, as tall flames were seen coming from the foredeck.
