Port of HaminaKotka in Finland published its January – April 2019 throughput, according to which it handled 5.98 million tonnes of cargo, increasing by 12% year-on-year. The transshipment of export cargo increased by 24.1% to 4.58 million tonnes.
Specifically, the exports include 902,320 tonne sof paper, 618,400 tonnes of cellulose (+32.7%), 743,960 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-3.9%) and 775,330 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (+40.1%).
Additionally, transshipment of import cargo experienced a rise of 12%, meaning 1.39 million tonnes, including 352,760 tonnes of general cargo (-18.4%), 170,070 tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-44.3%) and 318,060 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-8.6%).
According to the port’s data, the transit traffic data rose by 6.3%, to 1.56 million tonnes, whereas the coastal traffic experienced an unprecedented increase 3.5 times to 380,980 tonnes.
Despite the overall increase of the ports shipments, the transshipment of containers faced a decrease of 4.3% to 237,610 TEUs.
In addition, the vessel traffic grew by 9.6% to 985 units.
