On 8 April, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering held an opening ceremony of its new digital center for shipbuilding process.
According to the shipbuilder, the center at its Okpo shipyard on Geoje Island, 398 kilometers south of Seoul, is made up of two parts: the smart production management center and the smart sea trial center.
In fact, the smart production center will share real-time production information and make quick decisions by incorporating the latest IoT technology.
In the smart production management center, you can check various production information updated every minute through a large screen, and if a problem occurs, you can immediately find a solution.
…Daewoo explained.
The smart production management center is expected to contribute to productivity improvement as well as to prevent safety accidents due to process stability, and to operate smart shipyards in earnest by utilizing information such as resources and energy consumption within the shipyard.

At the same time, the Smart Commissioning Center will collect all operational information, such as equipment performance, fuel consumption, and problems, of all commissioning ships built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, and provides real-time monitoring and technical support.
In fact, it will allow engineers on shore to determine and solve the problems of ships sailing on sea trials.
The data collected in the smart commissioning center can be applied in advance to optimize the operation of the equipment of the ship to be built and improvement points through big data analysis, and it is expected to improve order competitiveness as it can suggest ways to reduce operating costs to ship owners. .
The digital production center will establish itself as a core facility that will open the era of smart shipyard construction and autonomous ship operation, which is the company’s future competitiveness.
…Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering President Lee Seong-geun, concluded.
