The Panama Maritime Authority issued a notice last month to warn that vessels cannot enter the Ports of Famagusta, Karavostasi and Kyrenia, as per order by the Republic of Cyprus.
In particular, the country has taken restrictions in order to uphold and maintain the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over its ports and harbors and due to the fact that safety of navigation could no longer be guaranteed in these areas illegally occupied by the Turkish Army since 1974.
The Flag Authority explains that the notice inform users of the Panamanian Registry about the issuance of Resolution 550 (1984) adopted on 11 May 1984 by the United Nations Security Council and reaffirming Resolutions 365 (1974), 367 (1975), 541 (1983) and Resolution 544 (1983), when the Security Council condemned the illegal secessionist activities in the occupied part of the Republic of Cyprus from Turkey, in violation of the previous resolutions.
