Several leaders of the Greek shipping community participated at RINA Hellenic Committee, discussing new trends and challenges of international shipping, on 22 November.
Opening the meeting, Committee chairman George Youroukos, Owner of Technomar Shipping Inc., highlighted achievements of RINA in 2017, emphasizing that its Greek owned fleet has increased by 25% during current year, while it added value services, like the Infoship EGO energy performance system, as well as the Competence Management System for the assessment of seafarers.
Further, Ugo Salerno, Chairman & CEO of the RINA Group, provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities that shipping faces as part of the latest developments of global markets. Mr. Salerno focused particularly on the Chinese belt and road initiative, while he referred extensively to the digital future of shipping and its digital transformation that is data-driven.
Paolo Moretti, General Manager Marine, RINA Services, informed about the latest developments of RINA Marine, with particular reference to the unique projects of large dual fuel powered cruise ships for Carnival group, currently under construction by Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany, as well as to a new project on battery powered ships.
Giampiero Soncini, Senior Advisor Consultant, RINA Services, gave a presentation on the new role of classification societies when shipping goes digital.
Spyros Zolotas, Area Manager, RINA Hellas, thanked the members for their continuous support that led to the 25% increase of RINA’s Greek and Cypriot owned fleet.
Finally, as a guest of the RINA Hellenic Advisory Committee, David Peel, Manager EMEA of RightShip, updated the participants on the latest developments and results of the vetting system of its organization.
