A crew member went overboard from the Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier ‘KSL Singapore’ while the ship was 8.26 nautical miles Southwest of Orchid Island, Taiwan, according to data provided by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The Filipino crew man was identified as Errald Danielle C. Caniel, a 23-year old resident of Parañaque, Manila.
The man was last seen onboard KSL Singapore around 1:30 PM, on 24 August and was noticed missing around 3 AM of the following day.
The bulk carrier reported the incident to the Rescue Coordination Council of Hong Kong and Philippines and asked for necessary assistance.
The PCG Command Center contacted US Department of Foreign Affairs who then informed that the Bahamas-flagged ‘Houston Voyager’ was within the vicinity of the incident.
The PCG and DFA are coordinating to contact the ship, the Coast Guard said.
Moreover, the two PCG’s multi-role response vessels, BRP Malabrigo and BRP Capones deployed in the area and two Hong Kong Navy vessels are on standby for search and rescue operations upon weather permitting.
