Princess Cruises issued a statement informing that they’re halting operations for two months (60 days) impacting voyages departing March 12 to May 10, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the impact it already had to some of its cruise vessels.
Issuing the statement, Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises stated that it is a “bold action” taken by the company in efforts to reassure all guests, team members and global stakeholders of their commitment to the health, safety and well-being of all who sail with along them, as well as those who they collaborate with, and the countries and communities they visit around the world.
While this is a difficult business decision, we firmly believe it is the right one and is in alignment with our company’s core values
… the statement said.
Concerning those who currently are onboard a cruise that will end in the next five days, they will continue to sail as expected through the end of the itinerary so that onward travel arrangements are not disrupted.
Current voyages that are being conducted and extend beyond March 17 will be ended at the most convenient location for guests, factoring in operational requirements.
Princess will do everything possible to return each guest home with the greatest amount of care possible. During this time, our operations and medical teams across the fleet will remain vigilant in their care and service for guests and crew onboard

In addition, those who may have been affected by this decision will be provided with the opportunity to transfer 100% of the money paid for their cancelled cruise to a future cruise of their choice, with credit benefits included.
To boost the company’s decision, Pincess Cruises said that the best way for its supporters and partners to help the company was to book a cruise on board one of its ships.
To remind, Princess Cruises vessel, Diamond Princess, first reported on February 4 that about ten passengers that had been positively tested for Coronavirus. Then, on February 6, the company informed of 41 additional passengers infected. On 15 February, hundreds of Americans have been flown out of Japan after leaving the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship, while another 70 people on board tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of 355. Yet, two passengers of Diamond Princess die because of the coronavirus.
Also, Canada announced that one Canadian passenger of the Grand Princess tested positive for COVID-19, while in quarantine at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. The passenger’s symptoms are mild.
