Naming ceremony and exhibition area for visitors
Danes are offered a unique experience, when the world’s largest ship takes a detour from its route and berths at the quay of Langelinie in Copenhagen from September 23 to 29.
Arriving from Gdansk the ship will after its Copenhagen visit rejoin the service on the Asia-Europe trade calling 14 different ports – one of which is Aarhus, where a significant part of Danish agricultural export is loaded.

This Triple-E-ship is the second in the series of this type of container ships. It is 400 meters long, 59 meters wide, 73 meters high and accommodates more than 18,000 20-foot containers. The ship is not only the world´s largest but also the most environmentally improved as its innovative design sets new standards for reuse of materials and reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 50% per container moved, compared to the industry average CO2 performance on the Asia-Europe trade.
The ship arrives at Langelinie at night on September 23 and will be opened to the public on September 25 subsequent to a ceremony where the ship is named by Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess. The naming ceremony is from 10:00 to 12:00 and spectators can watch from parts of a 12.000 sqm exhibition area on the quay. Afterwards the ship opens for public viewing at 13:00.
In the exhibition area visitors can test their skills as a Triple E-captain in a vessel simulator, get to know about life as a seafarer and learn much more about the central role of container shipping in world trade, as well as the variety of items shipped in containers.
“Our intention with this event is not just to show the Triple-E to maritime enthusiasts, but to provide greater insight into the container vessel’s central role in world trade, when millions of items each day are brought across the oceans of the world. Items that we all take for granted in our daily lives,” says Maersk Line Chief Operating Officer, Morten Engelstoft.
