A German captain was charged for being drunk in control of a container ship that grounded off Denmark, on October 28.
More specifically, police in Funen received a report that the 508-teu Ragna got stuck on sand, after leaving Fredericia.
According to a police officer, suspicions were raised because “the sailing pattern from harbour to sandy bottom was unusual.”
As a result, a team went out to the Ragna to investigate, finding out that the captain of the ship was under the influence of alcohol.
The captain was arrested and charged with suspicion of drunken sailing, after which he sailed ashore in the company of the officers.
The ship experienced no damages, while no oil was spilled either. However, it has dropped anchor and the engine has stopped.
