The container major, CMA CGM has signed a partnership with UNICEF in order to ship essential supplies to children around the world.
Under their two-year partnership, CMA CGM will ship 200 containers of first necessity goods per year for UNICEF, free of charge.
Namely, the container company committed to transport every year 200 TEUs to the benefit of UNICEF by sea. These containers will be used to carry educational equipment, drugs and emergency nutritional products.
In addition, specialists from CMA CGM Group’s Reefer division will work alongside UNICEF’s teams to support their logistics strategy for transporting refrigerated goods by sea (drugs, vaccines, etc.) under the CMA CGM Foundation’s skills-based volunteering program.
As explained, the collaboration will begin with an important shipment of educational equipment to Chad.
In all, 146 TEUs carrying 3.5 million schoolbooks for children aged seven to ten years in French and in Arabic will be transported to five cities in Chad—N’Djamena, Kanem, Mongo, Abéché and Moundou.
According to UNICEF, in Chad, only 20% of children who complete their primary education have good basic reading and math skills in French and Arabic, the country’s two official languages.
This highlights the need to provide the most vulnerable children with the necessary tools for them to learn effectively.
