Amid the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic and the quarantine requirements for ship crews prior to Chinese New Year (CNY 2021), CMA CGM suspends cargo bound for South China ports in early 2021.
According to the French shipping major, South China & Hong Kong feeder operators have announced for early feeder suspensions from January 5th to February 21st, 2021.
To remind, feeders collect containers from smaller ports and take them to terminals where they can be loaded onto large vessels.
In light of the situation, CMA CGM will be temporarily suspending cargo bound to South China ports.
For the records, Lunar New Year, which in 2021 falls on Feb. 12, is marked with a week-long holiday in China that typically leads to congestion at the country’s ports
What is more, the suspension applies to all trades except those with CMA-CGM subsidiary CNC, while service resumption is expected to be after 21st Feb 2021, pending further updates from feeder operators.
Concluding, the company listed some exceptions for transhipments via Nansha, Shekou and Hong Kong, for dry cargo only, subject to an additional feeder surcharge.
