CMA CGM announced that it made a new order for 50,000 Traxen trackers, aiming in the creation of a fleet of ‘smart’ containers, able to deliver operational data to cargo owners for improved supply chain management. Specifically, CMA CGM invested in Traxens in 2012, as one of the shareholders.
Mainly, the trackers provide a near-real-time alert system that will enable the company’s customers to monitor their products and be informed about all stages of the shipping process, through an online interface.
CMA CGM noted that in the possibility that the users wish to have more detailed information in their shipments, the company will provide personalised diagnosis information based on analysis of the supply chain, to identify any logistical problems and implement optimisation solutions.

Concerning the Traxens system, it includes a connected tracker that is attached to a container, and monitors the container’s position in sea and land and also monitors the intensity of any shocks that may occur, such as the opening and closing of doors, or any external temperature variations.
Therefore, as a Traxens shareholder, CMA CGM has taken part in the development of its container monitoring system by running a number of test projects prior to the commercial launch of the technology in 2018.
