SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 SMART4SEA – EUROPORT Awards on e-navigation, cyber security, initiative, technology and ship operator that have showcased excellence and innovation within the maritime industry towards a smarter and more sustainable shipping. The awards were presented at a prestigious ceremony which successfully concluded on November the 5th, on the sidelines of EUROPORT, the leading international exhibition that took place in Rotterdam, November 5-8, 2019.
The winners of the first SMART4SEA – EUROPORT Awards are:
NAVTOR received the E- Navigation Award for its innovative NavBox solution with ‘cyber secure’ certification (IEC 61162-460 Gateway) from DNV GL which updates digital charts, publications and navigational data, providing complete regulatory compliance and security. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Alphatron Marine, Marlink and Meteo- Group.
GTMaritime received the Cyber Security Award for its GTMailPlus, a maritime email solution which safeguards vessels by proactively filtering mail traffic at one of GTMaritime’s shore-based gateways before it is transmitted to the ship. This forms a frontline defense against the rising tide of cyber-attacks. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Be Cyber Aware At Sea, DNV GL and IACS.
Bureau Veritas received the Technology Award for applying a 3D classification process to a naval vessel, for the first time. The process uses a 3D model to exchange digital information, improve collaboration and reduce the number of iterations in the classification design review process for approving a design. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Becker Marine Systems, Marinelec Technologies, MedAssist.online and RAMLAB.
Columbia Shipmanagement received the Ship Operator Award for its Performance Optimization Control Room, in collaboration with Tototheo. The Control Room will be manned 24/7 by qualified personnel who will optimize vessel safety, crew rotation and training, performance. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Carnival Corporation, Mitsui OSK Lines and NYK Group Europe
HEMEXPO received the Initiative Award for presenting Smart Ship Solutions in the shipping industry tailored to meet the needs of shipowners and shipyards. HEMEXPO brings together organizations that share a common innovative vision towards a safer shipping. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Danish Maritime Authority, Insurwave, Massterly AS and Open Simulation Platform.
In light of these awards, EUROPORT has partnered with SAFETY4SEA to stage a series of special awards concentrating on four specific themes: digital shipping; environmental protection; safety at sea and maritime careers. The winners are those who attracted the most votes by the end of a voting period which was held online during a three-month period. The process included a combination of open nomination and voting which provided a unique opportunity for all nominees to get acknowledged for the hard and good work they put into their projects and initiatives, worth to be awarded. In particular, the awards were open to organisations and individuals participating in EUROPORT as exhibitors or partners, or which are based, or operating with an office in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden or United Kingdom.
