Qingdao Shipyard recently reported the construction of China’s first autonomous containership, named as Zhi Fei, according to Chinese media sources.
Specifically, the vessel’s establishment plan was introduced with a steel cutting ceremony on 15th May and is scheduled for delivery in June 2021.
What is more, the 300 TEU, Zhi Fei, will be installed with intelligent navigation and advanced environmentally-friendly solutions in order to cut the ship’s NOx, SOx and CO2 emissions and noise, including also an electric propulsion system.
Zhi Fei will be 117 metres long, 15 metres wide and 5,000 dwt, with a maximum speed of 12 knots.
Concluding, behind the initiative’s establishment is Shanghai Bestway Marine Engineering Design, Navigation Brilliance (Qingdao) Technology, Shanghai Marine Equipment Research Institute(CSSC 704), and China Waterborne Transport Research Institute.
