The Captain of the container ship ‘MSC GIANNINA’, a Mediterranean Shipping Company- operated ship, was reported missing, probably on October 19, while the ship was underway in the Tyrrhenian sea.
Namely, according to data provided by Maritime Bulletin, the vessel was en route from Gioia Tauro to Genoa, Italy, when the crew realised that the man was missing.
The Portugal-flagged ship reportedly continued her voyage under command of Chief Officer, arriving at Genoa port, Polmare Terminal, in the early hours of October 21.
The police was alerted and arrested the ship. An investigation has started and the crew was questioned, sources say, but nothing is found yet. However, this information is yet to be confirmed.
The 54-year old Captain is of Ukrainian nationality.
