The master of the bulker vessel ‘Union Medal’ lost his life when a mooring line parted and struck him, at Ilo Port, Peru on Tuesday, September 10. The vessel remains moored at Ilo port, as from the day of the fatal incident.
Specifically, local news ‘Exitosa’ reported that the Unison Medal was moored at the port of Ilo to take a load of copper concentrate. When one line parted, the captain of the vessel left his cabin to assess the situation. Yet, a second line parted striking and killing him.
The 2015-built Unison Medal is a Hong Kong-flagged handysize bulker operated by a Taiwanese firm.
