The Canadian-flagged self discharging bulk carrier ‘RT Honorable Paul Martin’ ran aground on the American side of the St. Lawrence Seaway, near Cardinal, Ontario, on 6 October, the Canadian Coast Guard announced.
The 740-foot motor vessel ran aground Sunday evening, while transiting downbound the St. Lawrence River en route to Quebec City.
The vessel was carrying a load of iron ore at the time, the US Coast Guard added.
There has been some water intake on vessel at a slow rate, but there were no injuries or pollution reported.

The Coast Guard is working closely with the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and our partners as part of an Incident Management Team in response to this incident. The Incident Management Team is currently developing a salvage plan,

The Seaway remained closed for night navigation, as a result.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
