The 740-foot  motor vessel ran aground Sunday evening, while transiting downbound the St. Lawrence River en route to Quebec City.

The vessel was carrying a load of iron ore at the time, the US Coast Guard added.

There has been some water intake on vessel at a slow rate, but there were no injuries or pollution reported.

We are currently on scene with the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, USCG Great Lakes and Transport Canada to assess the situation and determine next steps,

...the Canadian Coast Guard said in an official statement on 8 October.

The Coast Guard is working closely with the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and our partners as part of an Incident Management Team in response to this incident. The Incident Management Team is currently developing a salvage plan,

...the USCG also informed.

The Seaway remained closed for night navigation, as a result.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
