A body rec overed in the Gulf of Mexico may be the worker missing since an explosion on an oil rig off the coast of Louisiana on Nov. 16. The Jefferson Parish coroner’s office will use dental records and possibly DNA to determine whether the body is Je
rome Malagapo, a Filipino contractor.
The body was spotted Monday by crewmembers of a supply vessel about 2.5 miles off Grand Isle, according to the Coast Guard. Two other workers were killed in the fire — one found in the Gulf near the oil platform and another who was critically burned and died later at a hospital in Baton Rouge.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the federal Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. The platform, owned by Texas-based Black Elk Energy, was shut down while it was being refurbished, and there has been no continuous oil leak associated with the incident.
