IMB alerts all ships sailing around Singaporeand the Straits of Malacca
Pirates have struck at least 10 times in waters around Singapore and the peninsula this year, prompting the International Maritime Bureau to alert all ships sailing in these waters.
“Although the situation is not alarming, vessel and ship captains should be vigilant and adhere to the United Nations’ Anti-Piracy Watch guidelines,” said the bureau’s piracy reporting centre Asian region head Noel Choong.
The bureau has, so far, received six reports in the Singapore Strait, two along the Straits of Malacca and two in the waters off Tanjung Piai, near Pontian.
