The Batangas Container Terminal (BCT) has improved its role as international trade facilitator in Calabarzon. In this aspect, the port achieved a new operations milestone, as it surpassed the 200,000-TEU cargo volume mark for the first time since its start.
Namely, the Batangas Container Terminal, belonging to Asian Terminals Inc, has a leading role as an international trade facilitator in Calabarzon, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon and has effectively helped relieve the traffic in Metro Manila roads.
In the early days of November, BCT exceeded the 200,000-TEU cargo volume for the first time since it first started in 2010. With this milestone and a month before the end of 2018, BCT definitely went beyond its limits in full-year cargo throughput of over 197,000 teus in 2017. It is of a big importance that BCT managed to lower by 100.000 truck trips along Metro Manila roads, with more recipients routing containerised cargoes via south Luzon’s preferred international gateway port.

The terminal’s 200.000 teu cargo was delivered on weekend by MV Balthasar Schulte, operated by Sealand – a Maersk Company, previous MCC Transport. Sealand – a Maersk Company runs three weekly services en route by BCT, which connect Calabarzon shippers directly to Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia and other key regional and global markets.
Moreover, the terminal’s cargoes have seen a rapid development in the past three years since many are the shippers that patronize Batangas Port. The location of BCT favours it, since it is strategically located near Calabarzon’s important manufacturing zones and is connected to modern road infrastructure,thus, delivering greater advantages to the supply-chain.
Finally, planning for a future development, BCT is aiming to big expansion project that are to complete. In the end of 2018 BCT will be delivered two additional quay cranes and four more rubber-tired gantry cranes along with other operations-critical equipment in line with its investment commitment with the Philippine Ports Authority. As a result, the terminal’s capacity will increase to more than 450.000 teus by 2019, supporting Calabarzon’s growing industries.
