Two ships anchored off the coast of Kartal, Istanbul, collided after strong winds caused one vessel to drift uncontrollably on 21 November, according to reports.
The dry cargo vessel, Marla Orca, began drifting due to the strong winds, which later resulted in the collision. The dry cargo vessel, had recently completed a voyage from Egypt to the Sea of Marmara. According to the reports, the vessel was anchored off Kartal and was destined for Kroman when it collided with the Cameroonian-flagged vessel DSK1 which was also anchored.
No injuries were reported, however, authorities are evaluating the severity of the damage and its effect on local maritime traffic.
The collision resulted in noticeable damage to both vessels, and the crew members aboard were in a state of panic. Both Marla Orca and DSK1 remained anchored and stable as of 24 November as reported.
Video footage recorded by one of the crew members from the vessel DSK1 was shared online, capturing the moment of panic at the time of the crash. The video shows crew members alarmed as they noticed the ship approaching towards them.
