Engine trouble in Langonoy Gulf
A total of 200 passengers and crew of a ship that drifted listlessly after encountering engine trouble in Langonoy Gulf, Albay, were secured and brought to safety last Wednesday by rescuers of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Lieutenant Commander Algier Ricafrente, PCG Public Affairs chief, said personnel of Coast Guard District-Bicol responded to a distress call from “M/V Calixta IV” around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
The vessel left the Port of Tabaco around 12:30 p.m. and its engine went dead less than an hour later, said Capt. Tranquilino Paition, commander of Coast Guard District-Bicol.
Paiton said the PCG rescue vessel, along with M/V Calixta II which is a sister ship of the distressed vessel, searched and then towed M/V Calixta IV back to Tabaco Port for the transfer of its passengers to another ship.
