The video presents the first commercial autonomous vessel and also commercial zero ballast vessel in the world. Yara Birkeland is expected to act as a game changer for the environment and for the shipping industry.
According to estimations, the vessel will transport about 25.000 containers per year, from Yara production plant to export container ports in Brevik and Larvik.
Kongsberg will deliver of all key enabling technologies on YARA Birkeland, such as the sensors and integration required for remote and autonomous operations, in addition to the electric drive, battery and propulsion control systems.
