X-Press Feeders has signed a deal with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) for the construction of six, methanol-ready, 11,000 TEU container vessels.
The company is looking for eco-friendly container vessels to add on its fleet, as part of its fleet renewal strategy. The vessels will come equipped with scrubbers, windshields and multiple energy-saving and drag-reduction solutions in order to optimize fuel retention and speed as well as carbon emission reduction.
Furthermore, X-Press Feeders has recently launched Europe’s first scheduled feeder network operated by vessels powered by green methanol. The route will cover Rotterdam and Antwerp, Bruges to Finland and the Baltics, allowing companies in Europe to ship goods in a more environmental – friendly manner.
The adoption of green methanol as sustainable fuel offers significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% compared to conventional fuels.
…the company said in a statement.
The recent order for six new boxships follows a shipbuilding contract signed earlier this year for four 11,000 TEU methanol-fueled containerships.
