USCG received a call on January 30 from the ship’s health insurance provider, informing them that a 65-year-old woman aboard the vessel needed medical attention. The woman was experiencing breathing difficulty and temporary unconsciousness.
At the time, Matson Kodiak was sailing westbound in the Strait of Juan de Fuca off the Washington coast near Neah Bay.
The Coast Guard deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Port Angeles that was airborne near Seattle to help the containership.
When the rescue crew arrived on scene, they deployed the rescue swimmer to assist, and safely medevac the woman.
She was later transferred to higher medical care. Her medical condition is unknown.
