Two heavy loaded large container ships collided at Pakistani Karachi port, causing the falling overboard off of at least 21 containers into the water, on Monday.
The 6350-TEU ‘Hamburg Bay’, operated by Eastern Pacific Chipping, collided with the 8000-TEU ‘Tolten’, operated by Anglo-Eastern Germany GMBH, while the latter was maneuvering on arrival, in the morning of 19 March, local media reported.
Following the incident, operations at the South Asia Port Terminal Limited (SAPT) have been suspended. Initial estimations reveal significant damage both on the ships and the containers.
Local authorities have started an operation to remove the containers from the water and have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the incident.
