A ferry run aground yesterday in Sweden, resulting in a significant spillage of diesel fuel that has spread across several kilometres.
According to local news sources, the Marco Polo TT-Line ferry, which typically operates between Trelleborg and Karlshamn, encountered an unexpected deviation from its regular course and run aground. Swedish Authorities have been summoned to provide assistance and commence the decontamination process.
During the afternoon, a ship inspector from the Transport Authority, the remaining crew, representatives of the shipping company and insurance companies carried out a damage inventory on board. It has been observed that the vessel has several holes in the skull of the front and waist vessel and that water has penetrated.
Luckily, amidst the chaos, the swift response of the authorities ensured the safe evacuation of all 75 passengers on board.
