The US Coast Guard is searching for an overdue aircraft with three people aboard about 20 miles west of Kake, Alaska. Namely, a Guardian King Air 200 medical life flight was expected to land in Kake, however, the aircraft never landed. What is more, the USCG informed that it found debris from a plane in the water approximately 22 miles west of Kake.
USCG deployed the US Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa crew to carry out the search near the last known position of the aircraft. Good Samaritan vessels are also searching the area.
During the search operation, USCG reported that debris from a plane was located in the water approximately 22 miles west of Kake. Nevertheless, it did not confirm that the debris is from the overdue aircraft.
Capt. Stephen White, Coast Guard Sector Juneau commander, stated:
We have received reports of debris in the water and are concentrating search efforts near that area. Through our coordinated efforts with all involved we continue to actively search, we are thankful for the assistance rendered
As of now, the weather in the area is reported as a rain and snow mix with overcast skies, with 7 mph winds and an air temperature of 39 degrees occurring. The water temperature is 42 degrees with 1-3 foot swells.
