The US Federal Trade Commission informed that it will take the Norwegian company Wilhelmsen in court, regarding the company’s plan to buy the US Drew Marine Group.
According to FTC this deal will put marine water treatment chemicals market competition in danger. If this deal was completed Wilhelmsen would have 60% of the marine water treatment chemicals market.
As a result the FTC filed an administrative complaint asking for the deal to be scrapped.
It also asked for a preliminary injunction in federal court, to temporarily stop the deal while the administrative process is ongoing.
Wilhelmsen spokeswoman Benedicte Teigen Gude said that the company does not agree with the decision made by FTC, according to Reuters, and added that the deal is subject to antitrust enforcers in London and Singapore, and had received approval from Britain, while Singapore’s review was underway.
