US Navy has signed an agreement with the Government of Queensland, Australia to refuel its Great Green Fleet warships with biofuels, advancing the Navy’s goal of getting half its power from renewables by 2020. The Great Green Fleet is a U.S.Navy commitment to source 50 percent of fuel from renewable sources by 2020.
The premier of Australia’s northeastern state of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk, signed the deal this week, according to an official statement.
Ms Palaszczuk commented that this agreement is an opportunity to set up the state as a biofuel hub.Q ueensland could potentially become a refuelling station for the US Navy’s biofuel fleet. But first, it has to become available – and in the quantities the navy needs – and at the price it sees as right.
Ms Palaszczuk said there was a risk involved with focusing so much of the state’s time, energy and capital on the innovation market, given the competitiveness, but she believed Queensland could emerge as a force as researchers, industry and government worked together, reported Brisbane Times
